3/11/2023 0 Comments Radarscope vs pykl3This is due to our efforts to get the larger educational community access to the standard Level 3 products once again. You’re choosing to use an app that isn’t supported by the developer AND AH is making every effort to keep things working for PYK元 users.Īn up-to-date “AllisonHouse alleges” is that we’ll have these lower resolution NEXRAD Level 3 products back later this summer. PYK元 doesn’t support SR, thus… you guessed it.ĪH isn’t out here spouting stuff that isn’t true. NOAA only sends Super-Res data via NOAAPORT now. (No, Caprock no longer exists AND it wouldn’t matter if they did, because…)ģ. So, I pulled up PYK元 on my phone and that allowed us to track the storm (which had a tornado warning) as we drove to the airport.“AllisonHouse alleges” is an interesting way to frame it.ġ) PYK元 doesn’t support the HTTPS transition on NOAAs servers.Ģ. we were headed back to the airport at Kansas City on the morning of May 25 - the laptop with the GPS and GRLevel3 was packed away - and we noticed what looked like a wall cloud off to our west. I even used PYK元 storm chasing back in May out in the Midwest. You can also manually change the color curves for the radar data, such as reflectivity, velocity and even the latest dual pol radar products! There is also an AFOS product browser, which means you can look up any NWS product from any office across the country! I'm a meteorologist with the NWS in Raleigh, NC, and in my opinion, the PYK元 program is the best one out there for mobile devices. viewing level 3 radar data with the capability of overlaying warnings) and has more options, including plotting GIS data (roads etc) along with the ability to edit how the GIS data is plotted (color, width, etc). I have a Google Nexus S, which is an Android phone, and the PYK元 radar application is great! I like it much better than radarscope, it does the same thing (i.e. you can plot that on the radar/map in real-time via GPS: Here's a screenshot of GRLevel3 when I was storm chasing this past May in Oklahoma, our position is marked by the white circle. exactly the same as what is used at the NWS. GRLevel2 (80$) or GRLevel2 Analyst (250$) are more robust than GRLevel3 and use Level II radar data - that's the best resolution weather radar data available. It uses Level 3 radar data, which is equal to or better than virtually all internet web-based radar sources, and it is a one time fee of 80$. GRLevel3 is a good beginners choice, there's less setup and it is more user friendly. The software is available for a free 21-day trial, so you can always check it out, see if you like it, and then decide to purchase or not. You can view each individual elevation angle that makes up the volume scan - and you can also create 2D or even 3D vertical cross-sections! Not only is it highly customizable with regard to viewing terrain, roads/highways, personal locations of interest, creating your own color curves for reflectivity/velocity data (and more), it also gives you radar interrogation capabilities that are virtually identical to what is used at the National Weather Service. no regional composite, only one radar site at a time). It is hands down the best way to view radar data on an individual site to site basis (i.e. Thanks for your patience and understanding.Īs a few others have mentioned, I would definitely check out the GRLevelX software. Also, please keep this thread on-topic: otherwise, posts will be deleted and the thread itself may be locked. Please be patient in the meantime we're trying to get this one resolved as soon as we can. I can't give an ETA on when things will be back to normal - this has happened before and "fixed itself," but I don't think that will be the case here. We're already in closed beta with a lot of changes in the pipeline: unfortunately, this means we can't quickly introduce a bugfix for this one. These changes prevent the emulator from processing observation data - and until it is changed back, we can't do much. The problem results from changes made to the Aviation Digital Data Service website that the emulator pulls its obs data from. Obviously, this is a big problem as far as the emulator is concerned: without observations, the emulator is rendered useless. If you've tried using the emulator at all today (December 12th), you may have noticed that observations do not work anymore.
